BREAKING: Trump claims NATO countries pledged to boost military spending, making it 'unnecessary' for U.S. to pull out of alliance

Speaking at an impromptu press conference at the end of a contentious two-day summit in Brussels, President Donald Trump said European nations had made new commitments to increase spending on their own militaries.

Trump said he had been “extremely unhappy” with the reluctance of many NATO nations to meet an agreed-upon goal of each country spending 2 percent of its gross domestic product on defense.

Short on details but long on unity, the president's tone and his demands were much different Thursday than they had been Wednesday.

“It all came together at the end,” Trump said.
