Ohio Woman Calls Cops on Black 12-Year-Old Paper Boy

A woman called the police on a black 12-year-old delivering newspapers in her Ohio neighborhood. She told the 911 dispatcher, “I noticed they were walking up to houses with nothing in hand and one of them came back with something,” according to the Columbus ABC station. She also called the incident “suspicious.”

But the boy, Uriah Sharp, had simply delivered papers to the wrong house and was retrieving them, his mother, Brandie Sharp, said. Police “quickly determined” that their story checked out.

“First day of paper route and we are pulled over by the police,” Sharp posted on Facebook. “Sad I cant even teach my son the value of working without someone whispering and looking at us out the side of their eye perhaps because we DON’T look like a person that belongs in their neighborhood.” Recently, police have been called on black people for sitting at Starbucks, having a barbecue, and taking a nap.
