...another thing about shooting is that the principles are the same whether you are shooting a 50 cal sniper rifle or a 22 cal plinker. Buy yaself a plinker, the ammo is much cheaper and ya can afford more practice. I suspect a good quality 22 cal revolver (s&w) and a decent 22 rifle Bolt action. Practice, practice practice!!!

I second Ribit's motion.

Iffen ya need some help or advice., there is plenty to be found. For home defense, start with a handgun and several clips. Semi autos. LEARN about your state's laws regarding transport of a purchased firearm. You don't want to be in trouble just taking it home with you....

For the home, you can get something full size like a 1911 from any of several makers. My Ruger P95 is pretty nice and has almost zero recoil. They don't make these new anymore. But a used one would be a nice home defense weapon. Lots of good things to choose from Zim.

The time to discover you need something is NOT when YOU have NOTHING. Too Late then.

STOCK UP on AMMO iffen ya get something. I suggest heartily 9 mm for home defense and hollow core, 147 grain. You hit someone with that and they are not going anywhere but down. and that is what you want.

CHEAP AMMO is for target practice. GOOD ammo is for using when it counts and yer life is on the line, or your important other...

Springfield Armory, KAHR, GLOCK, Smith&Wesson, RUGER, are all pretty good for handguns in semi-auto 9 mm weapons. Dependable. Repeatable.
MOST clips hold about 15 rounds. Just so ya know.

I would have at least four fully loaded at all times.

ANYWAY, yes, now is the time..... Get a shotgun as well and some longer range rifles. The shotgun with as short a barrel, 16 inch I believe is shortest legal, and 12 gage. Get )) buck for shells. Great point and shoot power .

Okay, about all I got fer ya....
