I guess it is inevitable that the notion of unceasing, undifferentiated immigration would come under challenge when the resources available look a bit more limited.
Why did folks choose immigration as a policy in the first place?
Was it altruism?
Why does America take huddled masses rather than, say, skilled people, or no one for that matter?
Or does it? If I remember correctly, there are some strategic programmes.
Is that choice intended to be benign for the immigrants or does it have a domestic value?
What is the answer to Trump's question?
Why does America take in these people in the way it does?
ps I am not agreeing with Trump. I am asking questions because I am curious about the answers.
